New COVID-19 Strain Discovered in the State of California

Man Looking Through A Microscope

The State of California has identified a new strain of the COVID-19 (SARS-Cov-2) virus. It is believed to have been transmitted from South America where the strain had originated.

The South American strain has proven to be a deadlier variant of the virus. Authorities are investigating if existing vaccines work on the new strain.

The new strain may cause Encephalitis. Encephalitis is inflammation of tissues in the brain, which causes the brain to swell. This can lead to headaches, sensitivity to light, mental confusion and seizures.
